Exeter Township Volunteer Fire Department crews were dispatched for mutual aid support at a multifamily residence structure fire on the 200 block of Schuylkill Road in Birdsboro late Friday afternoon. Soon after initial crews started making their way to the scene, the call was upgraded to a second alarm with possible entrapment. Arriving crews were met with heavy smoke and fire, making progress on interior operations. About an hour into the call, it was upgraded again to a third alarm and orders to evacuate the structure. Tower 25 was placed in service for roof operations and other fireground support. The fire was brought under control after extensive work. Exeter crews were released after about five hours on scene.
