ETFD Welcomes Home 1930 Mack Fire Truck

April 11, 2024

The Exeter Township Fire Department proudly welcomed home an apparatus that first joined the company nearly a century ago. Thanks to a generous donation by the Reiffton Fire Company Social Quarters, ETFD brought back a great piece of history — a 1930 Mack fire truck.

The piece has been owned by a private collector in Maine for a number of years. Through the support of the Social Quarters, Deputy Chief Eric Lessig, Deputy Chief Chris Jordan, ETFD Life Member Kenny Houck and others, the apparatus arrived in Exeter on Thursday, April 11.

It was sold in roughly 1957 to Kulptown Fire Company, which had it in service for about a year. It then sat along Route 422 in Baumstown for several months, then it disappeared. It ended up in a cargo container on a construction site in Maine.

The Mack will be available for members and the community to see over the coming week. After the open house for the piece, it will be moved to the department’s training site. It will be brought out of storage for the Memorial Day parade and other events.

Makes me feel so good to see the 30 Mack back where it started its life. As a pre Junior Fireman at Reiffton, under Larry Hafer, Sr., I spent many days and nights chasing the trucks to fires so I could learn and help.
My hat is off to all the people that made this happen.
Blessings and Health!
